Taking Fox News On

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

Talking Points Memo has a video up with some highlights from Obama’s interview on Fox News Sunday today:

In addition, Greg Sargent at TPM Election Central has provided his take on Obama’s performance, especially as regards a senior Obama advisor saying that Obama would “take Fox on”:

This will likely further dismay liberal bloggers who had worked very hard to get Dems to boycott Fox as a way of deligitimizing the network and who already criticized Obama for agreeing to appear in the first place.

I haven’t been following the liberal bloggerstorm to which Sargent is referring, but this idea that Obama should stay off of Fox to delegitimize it strikes me as counter to everything that he stands for.

Obama stands for unity. For him to boycott Fox would make about as much sense as if he were to boycott working with Republicans. The kind of coming together that Obama advocates isn’t just about bringing different races or sides of the aisle together, although it is about those things; it also includes discussing your ideas with media outlets, impartial or not.

So if, like Sargent, you take offense at the fact that “the broadcast was clearly a big victory for Fox and Chris Wallace, too,” I would counter that I’m looking forward to having a president who is actively working to turn seemingly oppositional situations into win-win ones. If Obama can do it with Fox News, he can do it anywhere.

Update: Josh Marshall seems to agree.

Yes We Can. But We Need Your Help.

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

I literally tossed and turned for most of last night. I couldn’t stop thinking about the primary today.

In a few minutes, I’m going to walk down the block and cast my vote for Barack Obama. I’ve been following him for a long time, and am convinced that he offers a new, bright vision for America, the likes of which we haven’t seen for a long time, but that we desperately need now.

He’s more than just an eloquent speaker; anyone who takes the time to visit the issues section of his website can see that. But, once the position papers have been written and the inaugural dust has settled, I want someone in the White House who can inspire and energize this country to take on those issues. Barack Obama is the one candidate who has proven he can do it time and again.

That’s why I’m so excited to be able to vote for him, as I know many others are.

But we need your help. So, if you live in Pennsylvania, please get out and vote for Barack Obama today! You can find out everything you need, from your polling location to your voting rights, at the Obama ‘08 website.
